Week #3 of "Make art that sells" is almost over. Oh my… the time is running so fast. I could stay in that course like… forever. Haha. So happy there'll be a part B in fall. Anyway. This weeks theme was children's books. Well, that's my comfort zone :) I was really curious what the assignment would be. But first we had to draw some snails. Here are some of mine. And then the big assignment: draw a cover (or double page). The story is Hans Christian Andersens fairy tale "The snail and the rose tree". Never heard of it before (the story, not the writer ;)) Th story is kind of desperate. But I really like it. Something to think about. I decided to do the cover. Lettering was the most struggling thing to do for me. But I found out: I really like to do that. I think of buying a tiny sketchbook just for lettering sketches. Hand Lettering is not that common in Germany yet (it's upcoming though). Might be nice to give that as a little extra to publishers. We'll see.
So here's my cover.
